On this day in 2003, the parents of 15-year-old Mario Madrigal Jr. called the police in a panic because their oldest son was threatening to kill himself with a kitchen knife. Within hours, they found themselves watching helplessly as Mario Jr. was shot and killed by police officers, who say he had threatened them with the knife.
This kind of event is happening far too often.
It seems this generation of cops missed a class or two, when to use deadly force is today's lecture class. What do you do when your called to help (hint: try not and kill the one your helping)?
Knife vs. Gun...hmm...I wonder what is more lethal? Kinda like pregnant women getting tased, The speeder who wouldn't put his John Hancock on a ticket, or the man in Canada who died from a taser incident. A few months back I remember hearing a story on Newsvine about an elderly couple who called for medical help, the cops ended up tasing the man. The list could go on.
These cops were called to help and made things worse.
This is really starting to make me angry
Good comment. I agree. If two cops can't disarm a man with a knife, they shouldn't be cops. At worst they could have shot him in the leg or shoulder. I think it's an ego thing with many of them. Your examples show there needs to be stricter rules.
