If this is true it could change a lot of media reports about the failure to capture him.

Here's video of Benazir Bhutto claiming Osama had been murdered in an interview with David Frost filmed shortly before her assassination.

Shame Frost was too senile to follow up on it. Too late now ...

That is too bad that he didn't follow up. She may have given more information.
    Thanks for the link.

Osama bin Laden was quite possibly dead, said French Defense Minister Alain Richard on Thursday on French radio Europe 1.

"We do not have his traces for a long time," said Richard. " There are serious chances that he is dead."

The article says he has been dead since 2001? That is 6 years...

It would be difficult to keep such a thing from public view for this long.

I agree. I was hoping someone would have more information on this. But if he had died the Taliban would not want it known and if he was buried in the mountains, few would know of it. It's possible, but I would say unlikely.

Just a bit of trivia. Bella ciao, the name of the website where this article is displayed, is a song from WWII. I prefer these words, which were, I believe, adapted by Leslie Fish.

Late this morning I heard the rifles
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
Late this morning I heard the rifles
And it is time for me to go.

The fairest flower, in all the mountain
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
The fairest flower in all the mountain
Is the Black Rose that sets us free.

We will join her and fight together.
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
We join her and fight together
Or we will surely die alone.

The winter's coming, the snows are on us
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
The winter's coming, the snows are on us
Now we must build fires of our own.

The hungry servants have stopped complaining
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
The hungry servants have stopped complaining
And all the masters wonder why.

Inside his castle, the king is sleeping
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
Inside his castle, the king is sleeping
Let us be sure he sleeps too long.

Late this morning I heard the rifles
Bella Ciao, Bella Ciao, Ciao, Ciao, Ciao
Late this morning I heard the rifles
And it is time for me to go.

Oy, and I feel so bad for never sending a card!

      Get this up the Newsvine.
There have been rumors for a long time he was ill w/kidney ailment, etc. but we had not heard any mention of his whereabouts or health for a long time.
Of course, he must be dead -- and no reason for the Bushies to shout out the news.
They still have his old videos to trot out for every election (ex. - October surprise). And stop noticing the apparent beard dye and other errors. They only add a quaint charm, like the wires on the UFOs in the old flying saucer movies...

      I didn't send one either.

If Bush knows he is dead he could give the proof and claim a victory but I'm no sure if that would outweigh the value of keeping him as a bogeyman.

Look, if the press trots out ANOTHER video of OBL just before the fall election, do you think we will all fall for it again? I mean, it will all look too, too contrived.
Although I have to admit a nagging curiosity over what he will be wearing this time. Those lovely earth tones, basic black, something snazzy in persimmon and paprika? Will he braid his beard and cornrow his hair? Will the lip movements match the audio???

I think at this time OBL is more of a symbol than a reality for both sides. It may no longer matter if he is dead or alive. Even if his body was found or he turned up alive in Finland, probably nothing much would change.

This is based on an old story, but nevertheless if it could be verified, the CIA has some serious explaining to do.

It is 5 years old but it could have some truth,. I don't see how it could be checked now. We may never know unless he is caught.
And the CIA may already know.

Voted up. I'm sure we'd all like to know more about this. I wouldn't doubt that he was dead. It would seem more likely than that he's been living in caves all this time.

I worked with a man a couple of years ago who was retired military and had spent several years in Saudi Arabia. He had told me then that OBL had been dead for some time and it was common knowledge in that part of the world. According to him, the reason the US government kept him alive to the American people was because they need a boogey man to continue to justify the war.

Not a scenario that would be our of character for them ....... This article is not a surprise ...
