Senator Barack Obama's aura of inevitability in the battle for the Democratic presidential nomination has diminished in the wake of his loss in the Pennsylvania primary and the furor over his former pastor, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News Poll.

This visualization below allows you to see the impact that each user has on the current conversation. The top row contains the group of users who have had the most impact, the 2nd row the group of users who have had the 2nd most impact (et cetera). Users with similar impact are grouped together, and the average score of the group is shown to the left of the group. The author of the article is also shown on the left, in their corresponding group. Each user's score is based on the number of comments the user has made plus the number of votes their comments have received. The scores are calculated relative one another, so while their absolute value is not particularly important, their relative difference does indicate a larger difference in impact on the conversation.

The survey suggests a very competitive race this November regardless of who the Democrats nominate. In a head-to-head race between Mr. Obama and Mr. McCain, both candidates are backed by 45 percent of the registered voters. In a race between Mrs. Clinton and Mr. McCain, 48 percent back Mrs. Clinton, while 43 percent back Mr. McCain.

You weren't questioning his character, you were belittling him and the majority of Americans that have voted for him.

The code of honor refers to personal attacks on other Newsvine users. For comparison, read some comments about, president Bush, or Christians, or liberals in general.

Obama has brought this upon himself. With the current state of affairs, we're left to question whether Obama was oblivious of what went on at his church, or he's pulling a con job over what he truly does believe.

I don't think they will backroads voters are becoming more independent towards him.I could be wrong. Wright has created a major problems for super delegates from what I have been reading, voting for Senator Obama could create a backlash on their elections, probably in any State.

Meanwhile, during the primaries we had McCain, who once criticized the late Jerry Falwell for being lunatic fringe, paying homage to the "Moral Majority" pastor who once suggested all homosexuals be sent to concentration camps and that 9/11 was God's punishment for Hollywood. I don't see the media beating on McCain's door asking him if he still agrees with his flip-flop from disdain to support of Falwell and other religious right-wing nutcases. Next, we'll have McCain meeting with Pat Robertson and every other theocratic nutter from the extreme right, but no one from the media will raise an eyebrow because it is expected that any GOP candidate has to suck up to the Bible Belt to get elected. Hypocrisy, anyone?

You are way off base. You are upset when Obama is attacked, then you make even worse attacks on McCain.
One fact. Thousands of politicians and preachers have endorsed all three candidates. Only one candidate was a member of a chuirch whose pastor said such things as Wright.

Please O-K actually go and listen to Jeremiah Wright's complete sermon instead of the snip its that the media put together. Reverend Wright is right that God should damn America for all of our immorality. We enslaved the Black people, moved the Native American's from their land to reservations, held down women and just about anyone else we felt were inferior. All because we are right and they are wrong. I listened to it the other night on Wisconsin Public Radio and it sure was different than what you hear in the Media.

Let's see, Bush during 2000 visited and praised Bob Jones University, a place that wouldn't allow mixed races to date each other. Pat Robertson, the nutcase who declared that God would attack Dover, Penn. because the people of that town wanted their kids to learn evolution in schools, supported Giuliani. Bush received mild press on his visit because the media expects right-wing politicians, even "compassionate conservative ones," to say outrageous things because they are all so uber patriotic, so it's OK. Giuliani could have refuted Robertson's support, but he didn't; neither was he asked by the media to defend it. As far as church attendance goes, Ronald Reagan, that champion of the Christian Right didn't even attend church and had his wife consult astrologers for making his trips. My point here is that the subtext in the Obama/Wright case is that white America gets shocked! shocked! to hear criticism from any black of stature. Therefore, by association, Obama gets tarnished by the reverend and questioned for his loyalties in a way none of the other candidates have been.

None of what you say excuses Wright. Or Obama. And a visit is not the same as sitting in church with a nutcase for 20 years.

Or, I almost forgot, McCain's longtime lobbyist friends working for him while also helping dictators around the globe. Yeah, most of them quit recently, but only when they were outed. Charlie Black remains. At least Obama's connection with the reverend didn't involve cozying up to a thug and a murderer--just a loud mouth. On another note, I saw that as soon as it was revealed that McCain's millionaire trophy wife had investments in the Sudan, they cancelled the investments. Why oh why must McCain do everything only after the media (the few who don't worship at his feet) have exposed his hypocrisy? Other candidates with similar investments dropped them BEFORE the media exposed them. What a phony chump this Keaton-Fiver was and is.
