Intensifying activity is evident at U.S. bases in Europe and the Gulf, aimed at preparing a massive air blitz that may include repeated attacks on 3,100 targets in Iran. Other sources say Iranian Revolutionary Guard installations will be barraged by cruise missiles.
In Washington, Congress, under intense pressure from the Israel lobby, is about to adopt a resolution calling for a naval blockade of Iran, an overt act of war.
Pro-Israel groups have been airing TV commercials
A U.S. or Israeli attack on Iran will guarantee Tehran decides to build nuclear weapons. Israel and Iran have turned their regional rivalry into a confrontation that threatens all.
Iran's supreme leader, Ali Khamenei, not its bombastic President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, controls that nation's military and insists Iran will not produce nuclear weapons. Israel claims it faces a second holocaust. Iran says Israel's nuclear forces threaten its existence.
The dogs of war are being unleashed.
There is almost no chance of war with Iran this year.
I wonder if any of the pundits really know what will happen. However, dramatic headlines sell papers (After all-- which woud be more likely to grab someone's attention "Chance of War Between U.S./Israel & Iran Appears Slim"..or..."Nuclear War on the Horizon").
One thing that many people do not realize, however, is the difference between talk-- and actions. And--pasrticularly in middle-eastern societies. All sorts of bombastic inflamed rhetoric is..common among politicians! And-- its often a tactic aimed at intimidation. A while back some Israeli politician made some sort of threat against Iran. Well-- what a ruckus it caused in discussions on the 'Vine! But it was meaningless-- he was not speaking for the government (in fact, I believe he was the Minister of the Interior or some such thing-- not even in a foreign policy or military department). And an Iranian official made dire threats re what they would do to Israel if attacked. But-- these statement are mere posturing-- they are so common amongst middle-eastern nations.
P.S.-- I forgot to mention my theory. I think Israel is going to continue to make inflammatory statements-- to try to convince the world, but especially the Europeans, that they are about to attack Iran (which would, of course, scare the Europeans). The reason for this is to scare the Euros into taking more action-- and stronger action, strong sanctions etc-- to put pressure on Iran not to develop nukes-- to do this to precvent an Israeli attack. I believe many of the Europeans will fall for it-- as will, of course, manuy of our resident alarmists here on the Vine!
