The villagers in Dap Dior are using drip irrigation, a system of pipes that drip water directly to the roots. But in this adapted version, created especially for developing countries, each plot of 500 square meters has a blue barrel on a meter-high pedestal. Gravity provides just enough pressure to pump the water through the pipes, which have a plastic insert to guide the water uniformly across the field.
The equipment was developed by an Israeli scientist, Dov Pasternak, who specializes in agriculture in desert areas. "More than 60 percent of Israel is desert," he says. The solution there was to modernize irrigation technology – Israel has some of the most advanced irrigation technology in the world, says Pasternak, and drip irrigation is by far the most efficient.
This is a good project.
Israeli innovations has produced some amazing inventions. Because their tiny country is mostly desert, they have come up with many ways to "make the desert bloom"-- drip irrigation is but one of these. And-- they are sharing their expertise with many other poor countries around the globe-- particularly neighbouring countries. And, of course, they have excelled in many other areas as well.
I recently came across a video that demonstrates some of what they are doing in this regard-- if you get a chance, its well worth watching in its entirety: Neighbourhood Bully.
Very worthwhile watching! Thanks again, Krishna.
You're welcome :-)
More people should see this sort of thing-- its a small step, but at least a beginning-- in countering the hatred-mongering and general disinformation that is being spread by the Saudi financed anti-Israel propaganda mills-- and further propagated by "useful idiots" in the west.
Hooray for that Israeli scientist. Perhaps heads of state elsewhere will observe and seek assistance for their own arid climes which are unable to sustain their burgeoning populations.
